Great to hear that Hills Football have shown great wisdom and sense in continuing conversations with HUFC to run the representative programs in 2020!!
Hopefully the clubs will be consulted and decisions will be made quickly that will be in the best interest of all Hills Football participants and will enable Hills Football to continue to focus on grassroots players who are the majority of the participants whilst HUFC continue to develop those players that have chosen this path!!
Here’s hoping this continues!!

Rather sad really that any conversation is even needed. Being a stickler for history, people should know that Hills United FC was established by Baulkham Hills FC, Castle Hill United FC and Hills Independent in 1989 playing in State League.
In 1988 Baulkham Hills played in state league 3rd division and finished the season in 3rd place with Castle Hill playing in the Inter Urban competition finishing in 6th Place. All of the Hills clubs realised a strong demand and requirement for the Hills District to have its own rep club and Hills United FC were formed by the above mentioned 3 clubs commencing in 1989 and have been operating ever since.
There are currently former Hills United players who now play in the Hills Football competition and even some having committee roles with Hills Football Clubs. One would hope common sense and logic prevails and as dreamgoal has mentioned, have the association focus on grass roots and leave the rep experts to elite football.

Pleased to hear it.
Can the Association Youth League be run by HUFC under license or does Hills Football have to keep that one?

Pleased to hear it. Can the Association Youth League be run by HUFC under license or does Hills Football have to keep that one? My understanding is that they can run this also under the MOU, the Licence is awarded to Association but could be managed by HUFC.

What is the purpose of Association Youth League? Will it not just drain another 16 players from the respective Div 1 competitions?

Well, if 64 kids would like to do this rather than play the local comp then that's good enough reason for me.

Happy to have the AYL if the kids want to play it. I'm not happy if Hills Football has runs reps rather than Hills United.

G'Day guys, Craig 4ster here. Many of you may know me for my work with SBS, but my true passion is the development of young talented players here in Australia. You may have heard me talk about this over and over again.
My great mates Johnny Warren and Les Murray would be turning in their graves if they were reading some of this, god rest their souls.
Now, lets be honest with our selves. We all sit back and watch the A-League, the Socceroos and Matilads with disgust (maybe not so much the Matildas). We think, why are we so bad? yet we have some of the highest participation rates per capita in the world. But why are we so crap? why have we NEVER produced true world class players? Why do we have NO players playing at the big 10/15 clubs in the world? Why Not? Why cant we?
Ill tell you why....
Because we dont want to push the boundaries. We dont want to change the status Quo. We want to continue with the cycle of committee members sons and sponsors sons taking places we want to charge $2400 for youth yet pay "1st graders" in NPL2 $500/$600/$700 a game We want to play a minimum amount of games per year and only train a few nights a week.
Do our world class cricketers train 2 nights a week? Do our world class cyclists train 2 nights a week? Do our world class swimmers train 2 nights a week? Do our would class boxers train 2 nights per week? Do our world class surgeons study 2 nights per week? Do our world class Race Horses train 2 days a week?
The answer is NO.
In Japan, youth play 50+ games per year In England, youth play 40+ games per year In Italy, youth play 40+ games per year... the list goes on.
Here i am, seeing an announcement by an Association that they are going to introduce one extra program in 2020, being AYL. Providing 60 odd boys a chance to potentially "make it" and i think, wow. How good is this. Finally an INDEPENDENT group, that does not have any "sons" or "sponsors", or a program that isnt charging $2400 to cover 1st grade wages. A program that is going to offer all year round coaching and matches to the players. A program that isnt going to train 2 nights a week and do the bare minimums. A program that is going to offer boys whos parents unfortunately cant afford the $2400 required to participate.
Then i read this negativity... wow!
Are you the same person who (like me) that watches the socceroos, watches the A-League and watches Aussies overseas who simply arent up to it? Yet, the same person who does not want to break the mould that is currently football is Australia?
Why cant a boy in the AYL program get signed by AC Milan.... No Seriously, why cant he?
Because the system wont let him. The System says you have to play NPL, train 2 nights a week for 25 weeks of the year and pay $2400 for the privilege.
If Lionel Messi was Australian, do you think he would have made it? Probably not. Because Messis mother probably couldnt afford the $2400. Messi was probably too small. Messi's dad probably wast a committee member.
Lets take a look at the current landscape of football here in the Hills District and the junior development. There is currently 1 club that represents 13,000 players. However, if we look at the Canterbury District, there are over 7 clubs that provide programs for the community.
I noticed a post on Hills United Facebook a few days back. They are NOT having any trials this year for youth age groups. Their teams are FULL.
Sorry to the 200+ boys who had dreams of playing rep football, you cant come here, we are full.. bye bye..
Then we have AYL. Firstly, the name says it all ASSOCIATION Youth League. Meaning the ASSOCIATION has to run it...
Then you have one local club who has posted on their facebook page demising the program. Why? so the better boys stay within their club and they can win the State Cup? Do they not want boys in their community to prosper and reach their potential?
Guys, why CANT we create change? why CANT we prosper? Why do we always have to hinder and hold back? Why cant we force the NPL clubs to do better? Why cant we break the mould?
Hills United FC is an OK option for the limited few who get a chance. I would love the day when i see the announcement from Hills United that they are offering fee free football (or as close to is) and running a program that gives the opportunity to hundreds of boys and girls to truly succeed.
Marconi, Blacktown City, APIA, Bonnyrigg... they are all the same.. Charge full freight, pay first graders... come back next year and do the same.
We do the same old thing each and every year, yet expect our national team to succeed? C'mon....
I reiterate my statements above for GSAP.... Its no different.
I applaud the Association for finally growing a set, and taking this on full steam. For finally breaking the mould. For showing leadership in a sport hindered by politics.
Should this program be a success, you watch, in 2021 all of the others will follow. They will all raise their bars and finally provide better programs for their players. finally provide the opportunities for players to actually make it.
Otherwise, why do we bother with NPL? we may aswell shut all of the clubs down, push everyone into grass roots football and all have a lough and dance at the end of the matches singing Kumbaya.
Please, im urging the naysayers to please stop hindering. Please get on board with this wonderful initiative, and please drive change in which ever program ytou are apart of.
Together, we CAN produce world class players. Just trust the process...
Sincerely, Craig 4ster

Hi Craig I love your passion and applaud some of your comments but I have to disagree with the AYL part sorry. I think dragging the 4th best group of teenage boys out of Club land and telling them one day you too can make it is a bit far fetched. If you watched any of the youth age group Div 1 comps this year you would have seen lots of quality matches with some teams having stand out players in them. Jump across to the State Cup or CoC comp and the quality level increases again but this level is still a long way short of NPL 1 or 2 where 99% of players will never progress further
If the AYL comp is designed as a true pathway to Hills and their NPL teams then that would be better but as you mention many players get frustrated with the selection process at most clubs so not sure if it would be any better here.
anyway good luck to the boys who are keen to trial for the new team and I hope they develop as players along the way

I think all of these potential AYL boys are thoroughly aware that they will not make a career from football. They just want something a bit better, a bit more exciting, something new. Good on them and I would like to know the club which has come out against this.

Hey craig 4ster I reckon your article (link below) from March 2014 regarding rip-off academies tearing the heart out of soccer is a great one and nearly six years later we are arguably far worse off. www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/ripoff-academies-tearing-heart-out-of-soccer-20140301-33szx.htmlWhilst the AYL and other rep topics are not related to academies, there are some similarities and as you say in your 2014 article, development programs should be delivered by the clubs through a structured program. It is also rather hilarious that one appears to think and write very much like another poster on here who has not posted for a little while.
