The FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 is due to start next month. I have included a poll of the top six teams which have odds of 10/1 or better predicted to win the World Cup. Vote for the team that you think has the best chance to win. Voting ends on 31/07/2023.
You may think that another team other than the six included in the poll have a good chance of winning. Here's your chance to discuss anything & everything associated with this event. Will the Matildas outperform the Socceroos who excelled at their recent World Cup ? Hopefully the Matildas will be successful & receive the accolades that they deserve.

Would not be an Aussie if I did not predict the Matildas to win.
I am no expert but it does look like a solid squad to take on the rest of the world but not all hopefuls could make the cut and some had to miss out.
Hills will be represented by Kyah Simon who is a Quakers Hill junior and played her junior representative football with Hills United FC so hopefully she can be fit and make a great contribution.
Hoping our Tillies go all the way!

The Matildas are drawn in Group B.
Their pool matches are as follows: 20th July 8pm Ireland 27th July 8pm Nigeria 31st July 8pm Canada
What are their chances of progressing to the next stage of the competition ? 🤔
I think extremely likely of going further. 🇦🇺

In my opinion they will easily get out of the group stage and reckon worse case will be a semi-final appearance and hopefully a tournament win.

Of the four teams in Pool B, the Matildas have the best odds of winning the tournament at about 10/1, Canada is next best at about 34/1, Ireland next at about 100/1 & Nigeria at about 250/1. These odds can fluctuate slightly on any given day but give the relevant position of each team in the pool. Based on those odds the Matildas are most likely to finish first in their pool. Looks promising.

The countdown is on to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, hosted here on home soil, with the opening games kicking off in just over a week’s time on July 20.
It’s set to be the most attended standalone women’s sporting event in history – more than one million tickets have already been sold – and one of the biggest global sporting tournaments.
Time to get involved & start supporting the Matildas. They definitely aren't the favourites to win the tournament but are in the top six teams & anything can happen on the day.

Let’s hope they stick to what they were selected for and that’s playing football.

Just one week to go for the Matildas first World Cup game against Ireland. Should be a cracker. Hoping for a really good result for the Matildas.

The Big Question is whether Australia's back 3 are quick enough to stop the counter attacks that other countries will test them with. Hopefully, the turnovers from playing out from the back are cured. On a positive note, they look quite threatening once over half way. The forward line is the envy of many countries. Good Luck. I will be hoping for a successful World Cup.

A good win to the Matildas last night in their final warm up game before the World Cup. Beating France 1-0 who are among the top teams in the upcoming competition. A very promising result.

Tomorrow is the big day. Just one more sleep to go. The FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off. It is obvious by the multitude of posts so far by forum members that you can hardly contain your excitement (a bit of sarcasm there).
This is probably the biggest sporting event to be held in Australia since the 2000 Olympics. Time to start getting involved & supporting the Matildas. Go you good things.
This is the biggest opportunity to put Soccer in Australia on the sporting map & particularly for women's sport in general. If you have been lucky enough to get tickets to any of the matches then post your experiences here. Look forward to hearing from you all.

It has been interesting listening to some recent interviews with Ange who stated when the Socceroos won the Asian Cup, the governing body failed to take advantage of the marketing opportunity and invest in and promote the game to the community and use the success to grow the sport. Hopefully they don't make the same mistake again! It does appear they have learnt something with all the coverage it is getting which is great for female football.

A bit of a shaky start for the Matildas, particularly with the late withdrawal of Sam Kerr, who is obviously one of their best players. A hard fought 1-0 win against a gritty Irish side will suffice at this stage of the tournament. Hopefully Sam will be back on the field soon to provide that extra dimension in attack.
Not the ideal start to the tournament as I suspect many fans would have been disappointed in not being able to watch Sam Kerr in action on home turf in the biggest women's sporting competition in the world. Her participation in the next game is also under a cloud. Ideally we need to be able to progress from the pool stage & have Sam back on the pitch injury free.

The Irish team were a rather physical side and gave it to us, similarly to what Scotland did when we played them last and they beat us. It is not surprising and appeared our team were rather nervous on the big stage which was evident with the poor passing game and losing the ball a fair bit. Massive defensive effort by the Irish and I reckon our team will be far better for this tough match and should settle now they have their first game out of the way. The commentators said that Sam will miss the first two games but we are good enough to get out of the group stage without her but she will be needed when the knockout games start.
