It looks like the Matildas may cause their own demise with shock training injuries now suffered by Sam Kerr, Mary Fowler & Aivi Luik. Not the ideal preparation we were expecting. With a tough & vitally important game against Nigeria tonight it is not the situation we thought we would be in. A win tonight would all but secure passage through to the next round but it may not come easy.

With Canada's 2-1 win over Ireland more pressure has been heaped on to the Matildas to secure a victory over Nigeria this evening. Go Matildas.

The Women's World Cup just went from bad to worse with the Matildas losing 3-2 to Nigeria. They now sit in third place in Group B with one match left against Canada. An extremely difficult road to get back from here for the Matildas. All that Canada & Nigeria have to do is draw their next game to go through to the next stage. The Matildas progress is now out of their own hands & is dependent on others.
Oh so disappointing for the Matildas who promised so much & have sabotaged their own chances with ridiculous training injuries. I can't remember a team putting themselves in such a situation in this manner at any major tournament.

Easier said than done. Particularly considering that Sam Kerr is still no certainty to play & if she does will the lack of recent match play be a negative. Also Canada is ranked much higher than the other two teams in the group which we have struggled against. Only a win will get us through. Canada has the luxury of knowing that they only need to draw to secure passage through to the next stage.

Where a team is ranked means nothing as can be seen by recent results.
A win for the Matilda’s against Canada will mean they progress, a draw or loss and they are out.
I thought our first match was all nerves but our team struggled to keep possession and kept coughing up the ball again.
Our new defender Clare Hunt is very good in my opinion and has a big future.
We need a win ladies! Best of luck.

Matilda's were unlucky, dominated the stats sheet... possession, corners, shots etc... just not the scoreboard... that's football, hopefully can capitalize against Canada.
Thought the coach was poor... sending the tall centre back up late and pump long balls is what you do in under 12s

Well the Matildas managed to top their group even without any involvement from Sam Kerr. A convincing 4-0 win over Canada while Nigeria could only manage a 0-0 draw with Ireland. A great result after a shaky start to the competition by the Matildas. Looks promising moving forward particularly with Sam Kerr gaining extra time to recover from her injury.

Before the tournament even started the Matildas were warm favourites to top their group so it’s no surprise they did.
Only surprise was they lost to Nigeria.
At a minimum they need to make the quarter finals to say we’ve broken even, anything after that is all profit.
Whilst we won 4-0 Canada’s defence always looked vulnerable and their attack really didn’t put the fear of God into us.
Ireland had the best structured defence in our group whilst Canada the worst.

A nail biting win to the Matildas against the highly fancied French team. By progressing to the semi-finals this has been the most successful Matildas team ever. Bring on England & hopefully the Matildas can secure a win for a place in the finals. I would like to see a Matildas v Sweden final. Can the Matildas win the holy grail of Women's Soccer ? Whatever the results from here on in the Matildas have done themselves proud. Go Mighty Matildas !!

Spain has grabbed the first spot in the final after a close fought match with Sweden. Can the Matildas grab the other spot in the final by beating England ? I sure hope that they do.

A disappointing result with a 3-1 loss to England. Can the Matildas now regroup to gain third place in their match against Sweden ?

Whilst disappointing we lost to England, our Matildas have had an outstanding tournament and done their country very proud.
The way the country has got behind this World Cup should provide a huge boost and legacy to female football across the country.
Hoping this transitions to a large increase in participation rates for females in football next season and beyond.

A disappointing result with a 3-1 loss to England. Can the Matildas now regroup to gain third place in their match against Sweden ? Be it 3rd or 4th it’s all profit and exceeded expectations. Hope to see some of those play Sweden that haven’t had any time or very little time. Time to draw a line in the sand and go for youth. Wheeler, Chidiac, Grant, Hunt, Cooney Cross, Fowler, Micah, Vine, Nevin and Carpenter should be all playing against Sweden as they are the future, Olympics in France 2024 and all tournaments beyond. Throw some experience in as well and let’s see if they sink or swim.

An exciting finish to the World Cup with Spain deserved winners. The Matildas finished a very credible fourth & punched above their weight. Women’s soccer looks promising in Australia for the foreseeable future. Now is the time to build on the Matildas achievements.
