Historic Win for Matildas at Tournament of Nations
Australia has scored an historic football success, taking out the inaugural Tournament of Nations in the United States.
The Matildas finished with a perfect record after thumping Brazil 6-1 in their final match after earlier wins over USA and Japan.
Brazil took the early lead against the Matildas, opening the scoring less than 70 seconds after the opening whistle.
But Australia hit back through a Lisa De Vanna penalty in the 7th minute before while Caitlin Foord put the Matildas in front in the 32nd minute.
De Vanna added her second goal in the 34th minute as the flootgates opened. Katrina Gorry made it 4-1 with a well-taken goal in the 41st minute.
Second half goals to Foord and Sam Kerr added the icing to the cake.
The double to De Vanna made her the all-time leading goalscorer for the Matildas.
The Matildas have been on a roll since they scored their first ever win over world champions USA in their opening match of the tournament, before going on to defeat Japan earlier this week.
The victory is sure to mean a rise up the world rankings for the Matildas, who are currently number 7 on the FIFA rankings. The rise will be a big boost ahead of the Asian Cup in 2018 and the World Cup in 2019.

The MATILDAS have played sensationally during this tournament and thoroughly deserve their prize.
Things are looking great for the World Cup and for female football in our country.
Well done MATILDAS
