Given most of the country’s population growth is set to entrench itself in western Sydney, this problem will only get worse every year. Are councils prepared for this? Is the association? Will there be caps on total players given limited fields already, and who will miss out? When this gets harder to manage should we expect 4 week match foresight will drop to 3, 2, then 1 week in advance? There will definitely be caps in coming years, some clubs already have caps which are reached pretty quickly and/or have "certain postcodes only" type membership rules. It's inevitable, given the population growth that will happen in the Hills. The best thing HFI/FFA/FNSW could do to prepare for this is change the playfootball.com.au registrations system so that preference can be given (by Clubs) to returning players from the previous year.

The relatively untapped source of playing fields is with the local high schools. Hornsby council has formed some partnerships with schools where council upgrades and maintains school fields in return for training and playing on them.

Then there is the other option ..... More Friday night games and Sunday games. Yes I know that the Ladies need to play as well (and should be given 1st right to the fields) but if the field is not used then what is stopping us in playing on those days?

I had a quick look at the total draw for the association for Round 1 2019 and compared to last year's Round 1. This year there are 398 games compared to 380 games for 2018 season in Round 1 but there are 10 more byes in 2019 (36) compared to 2018 (26) so the difference is really 8 games per round or 1-2 fields.
Has the Hills Association lost any grounds this year ? With Caddies Creek reserve being opened this year I would have expected that this should cover the additional games ? Just trying to get a better understanding of the situation.

The Hills Shire's plans in developing new playing fields & rolling them out for use by HFI hit a major snag when the NSW Government in its infinite wisdom undertook its much disliked amalgamation, boundary changes, etc to Local Government Areas. This has effectively reduced significantly the Hills Shire"s income stream due to the loss of long established & consolidated areas such as Carlingford, North Rocks, Winston Hills, etc which provided considerable income but with minimal development costs as these were older areas with only a low level of maintenance costs. They have been left with newer growth areas crying out for new infrastructure but now missing a major source of income which has put a lot of pressure on their plans & put many in jeopardy as either being delayed or even scrapped. Can't blame HFI or the Hills Shire for these circumstances as they both work closely together to provide the best possible outcomes for all of us. This is not correct income from rates from these existing areas are generally used for services such as waste, sewage, road maintenance etc funds for new infrastructure is generated from income from developer contributions (s94 funds)

If every Club only registered the maximum number of players for the number of fields they had, then everybody would have home games. My understanding is 2-3 Clubs over registered... and all the other Clubs then cop the fall out. Was there not a query sent out to the clubs ~6 months ago asking if By-Laws should be changed such that no clubs should register more teams than the club's field capacity can cover for home games? How did that vote go?

This announcement sounds very much like the information I supplied a couple of weeks ago. You can't please all the people all of the time but it sounds like some people you can't please any of the time. The current situation sounds like a good compromise under difficult circumstances whereby players get a fair allocation of home & away games & have four weeks notice in advance of the draw. Time to build a bridge & get over it. The Association is trying to do the very best they can by everyone.

I think it's important to remember that our Competitions Manager went through a particularly difficult time a couple of months ago on the most personal level possible. Stop and think - how does that event compare to which team plays which game at which field? I think we should play anywhere she puts us, at any time, against whoever we draw, and be thankful that she's strong enough to continue working for us. Respect.

With half the draw now up on line, does anyone know if the fixtures will be reversed accordingly for round 10 through to 18?
I see a number of teams have back to back away or home fixtures in row. Some sides will play 3 or 4 away games in row.
