hey folks....it looks like there will be a sin bin introduced this year for dissent towards a ref or assistant ref. No yellow card - a 10 min sin bin instead.

This rule was introduced into Granville last season and seemed to work very well. Teams who have Hot Heads playing for them soon realized that playing 1 down wasn't much fun so they quickly sorted these blokes out (in most instances). was great to watch a bloke carry on towards a Ref then his mates give him a spray on the way off the pitch.

I am not sure if factual or not but have heard it is also treated same as a yellow card if and when a sin binned player later receives a yellow card, it then triggers a red and they are off.

Happy I am pretty sure that is correct only if the second offence is for dissent. If for a foul it is still only the first yellow

This was the HFA policy last year in Prems, I think its the same thing this year:
2018 – Temporary Dismissals (Premier League 1 & Premier Youth League Only)
1. Where a player is guilty of “Dissent by word or action” that player is shown a yellow card and the referee points to the technical area. This is not optional.
2. The player must retire to the technical area for a period of 10 minutes, and the team plays with one less player for that period.
3. The objective of the policy is to minimise dissent and to keep referees refereeing
4. The persons in the technical area (including the player themselves) keep the time (starting from when the player leaves the field) but the referee keeps a record and has the final say
5. Dissent by action includes crowding officials
6. Any second caution will result in the player being sent off and that player cannot be replaced. Any Caution with a Temporary Dismissal is included.
7. Players guilty of offensive, insulting and abusive language or gestures will still be sent off
8. Referees are still instructed to use verbal warnings to manage frustration and minor complaints from players, but dissent will result in a caution & a temporary dismissal

Pretty sure it is as follows: - it is not a yellow card. You can still get two yellows for other offences. - two sin bins and you are off but you can be replaced by a sub after your second 10 min off. - dissent between players will not be a sin bin but will be a yellow card for unsporting behaviour if necessary.

No, it's a regular yellow card, with an additional time off. So any other yellow means a red. 10 mins off for the dissent yellow in 90 minute games only. 5 mins off otherwise, so for 35s and 45s

I double checked my refs guide for this season. There is no yellow card. A sin bin plus a yellow card does not equal a red card. A second sin bin means the player is excluded for the remainder of the game but they may be replaced at the end of the second dismissal period.
The sin bin is 10 minutes for seniors (u18 & above) and 5 minutes for the juniors.

Would be nice to have some official clarity from HFA on their website (not that I don't believe you Obadiah)? Why wouldn't they be clear and concise?
Reminds of when Granville introduced and automatic red card for swearing half way through a season with minimal advice to any clubs. First ref we had sent off 5 players on a cold and blustery day at Ted Horwood where the only spectator was our esky. One player got sent because he skied a shot from 30 yards and mumbled .

Yeah I would have hoped that the clubs and teams would have been notified otherwise as a ref it all falls on us at the first round. We just got a briefing on Monday ourselves.

HFI have published the guidelines for temporary dismissals. Two points covered at the referees meeting earlier in the week not in the guidelines. 1/ 5 mins for U16. 10 mins for U17 and above. 2/ Two TDs plus a YC for one player. Player is shown a red card as they can not be substituted. hillsfootball.com.au/temporary-dismissal/

So here's a (slightly personal situation related) question; do the non-proper-yellow card sin bins count as proper yellows for the cumulative 5 yellows gets a ban scenario?
or no, cos apparently they're not actual yellows?
