With changes to rorting and outdated rules being outed jn every corner.
I suggest that we all commit to supporting a review of the current long-standing rort with the level of Insurance provided to players at all levels but primarily Association level.
The amount of included medical and payment assistance through this current insurance cover over so many years has been next to negligent.
When the Hills Association split independently for one season, it found insurance not only more cost effective but covered almost anything that required out of pocket medical & gap expenses.
So many sports insurers around the world provide for so much more at much more competitive pricing.
The current insurance provider for NSW Football is nothing short of a scam in comparison. Stinks of rorting.
I expect a motion to review and change this should be brought to the next general meeting Asap !!

I do remember something not that many years ago that a staffer’s family at FNSW had more than just a passing interest in who the insurance provider was. I agree, it’s been a rort forever and a day. Perhaps someone with elephant sized balls at the association can ask the question on insurance past and present. Some interesting doors might just open up!

Back in the mists of time when SHFA was in its early stages of development, (& not affiliated with FNSW of course), the Board had to broker their own insurance deal for players........and believe you me.....it was significantly cheaper than what FNSW was offering at the time.
How can one Association with a projected maximum of about 8,000 players at the time have superior buying power than an organisation representing a host of Associations ? It does make you wonder.
SHFA at the time did a pretty good job getting rates much lower than FNSW.
Unfortunately now that we are affiliated with FNSW we are unable to broker our own insurance deal as we could back then & have to accept what FNSW dishes up.

Oracle - you are not often incorrect but you are on this occasion and you should not be identifying people on the forum.
The gentleman you refer to was not on the SHFA board at the time this was organised nor did he have any involvement.

Lovefootball....point taken & I have edited the post even though the comment was of a positive nature & not criticising the person. There is more to this but I will refrain from discussing it further. I respect your input.

Hi All,
I can only comment on my own personal experience.
I suffered a pretty nasty injury half way through last season.
Anyway, upshot of it was I needed full reconstructive surgery to the left side of my face (including titanium plates and screws) and the repair of a detached retina. Even with private health insurance I was $8,000 out of pocket. After claiming on insurance I got back all of $750.
The insurance is not designed to cover these medical costs - it clearly states it will not cover any medical procedure that attracts a medicare rebate. If you think about it, nearly every medical procedure you see a professional for, has a corresponding medicare item. Leaves very few expense you can actually claim against.
In my opinion, it's not that it's a rort, it just inadequate to cover significant medical bills for more serious injuries. That needs to be looked at.

Having seen some injuries of players in the past two years with significant medical expenses (shoulder reconstructions & plastic surgery) i can say that insurance we have part of our registrations cover close to nothing. The out of pocket components are huge and although i understand we somewhat take risk in playing this game we love might has well not be insured and save the money

I’ve done a little bit of checking today and if I’m not mistaken Gow Gates are the insurers.
My earlier post made mention that there WAS a link between a FNSW staffer and the insurer of the day a number of years ago but that insurer WAS NOT Gow Gates.
I can’t remember who the previous insurers where, perhaps someone else does.
Back then and now the insurance component is worthless.

Grow Gates is the Insurance Broker, ie, Just a secretary middle-man passing on a deal they've made with the actual insurers. The Insururers are stated as - "Underwritten for certain underwriters at Lloyd’s of London & Chubb Insurance Australia Limited by their agent SLE Worldwide Australia Pty Ltd. "
Still a major rort in costs and liability compared to what we already know is available at market.
